    Restless

Awesome... hit my back button and just lost what I'd written.

    Recap:

Hate my job. But I don't really hate my job. Not that much. I'll have finished 1 year here on the 20th of October. I feel restless and unsatisfied with what I'm doing at my job, but seeing where the site was when I came here in comparison with where it now makes me feel a lot better. I often wonder if I should be a computer programmer or server/IT guy instead of a web dev - and also wonder about how I'll do the things I really want to when I'm locked down by school loans. Things like the JET program (teaching English to Japanese children) which I think I'd love to do.

In other news, I love the new church I've been going to and have small group tonight. They're awesome people and a lot like family - exactly what I've been looking for since moving down here. We're doing Tim-Tam slams through tea tonight, should be super yum-yum!

Also, I watched the movie Brick the other night... a fairly intense and interesting independent film with one very strange oddity. No one cusses and everyone seems to talk (for the most part) like they're in a 50s movie or a Hitchcock film - which was really interesting and strange. Also watched a Japanese movie called Sky High - and I still have no clue why it is called that... not a lot to say about it, it wasn't great but it wasn't horrible either. And apparently the one who helps out a lot in the movie and practically saves several lives will probably go to Hell when he dies for murdering people... lazy directing to just shrug that off. Oh, and Zombieland rocks - definitely not for the faint of heart though. It is a zombie movie with all the proper neck/ankle/arm-chewing and face-smashing. Gotta say I loved the typography/motion graphics in the movie. Love that stuff.

    Lazy Eye

    I've been waiting
I've been waiting for this moment all my life
    But it's not quite right

    And this 'real'
    It's impossible if possible
    At who's blind word
    So clear but so unheard

    I've been waiting
I've been waiting for this silence all night long
It's just a matter of time

    To appear sad
With the same 'ol decent lazy eye
    Fixed to rest on you
    Aim free and so untrue

    Everyone's so intimately rearranged
Everyone can focus clearly with such shine

    Everyone's so intimately rearranged
Everyone can focus clearly with such shine

    Locked and loaded
Still the same 'ol decent lazy eye
    Straight through your gaze
    That's why I said I relate
    I said we relate
    It's so fun to relate

It's the room the sun and the sky
The room the sun and the sky

    I've been waiting
I've been waiting for this moment...

    I love this season

Ah, fall... with your crisp chill in the air and the sweet smell of decomposing leaves. I love it so much, and I love dressing for fall! I love the hoodies and scarfs and coats and all that. I don't think I've ever been so excited for fall - I have no idea but I've just been absolutely giddy about it for the last day or so. I wore one of my sweatshits/sweater thingies to work today. I really shouldn't be having this much fun, and I'm not sure if I can say this is my favorite season (I might very well like them all), but I love the fall. :D

  • My zombie survival plan.

    http://survivingtheworld.net/Recitation17.html

    Simple.

I would keep a go-pack (cause a go-bag is too small for a shot gun) so that I can activate my survival plan ASAP. It would contain:

Semi-auto shotgun, twin berettas, ample shells and rounds for both. Several Cans of Non-perishables - two weeks worth of peanut butter, tunafish, etc. 6 pack of bottled water. Matches, one of those log thingies, lighters, knives and a reusable water filter. For macgyver moments I would also have in there flares, fuses, rope, string and a quart of oil (cause slick zombies are slow zombies! and also flameable).

Anywho... those are just preparations and have nothing to do with the actual plan- so here goes.

I would have to locate one of the many small groves of trees in the middle of corn fields in indiana. I would secretly build a fort with a good view of the surrounding area. I would stock this treehouse with lots of food and water. Also, a good scoped rifle to take out any zombies who think I'd make a good snack. And I'd stay here....until.......uh....probably until I ran out of food. By then I'd be able to steal some sort of large or armored truck....maybe a fuel truck and head for northern Canada avoiding high population areas as much as possible with the hope that perhaps the corpsicles of the zombies heatless bodies would start falling over and shattering. Find a quiet cabin and befriend a happy Canadian person or crazed woodman who could prove to be just as dangerous.

Either way, that is my zombie survival plan. Not the most detailed one, but it isn't one that involves using annoying friends or old people as bait either. BTW, feel free to join me... make sure you ask where the secret hideout is and have your go-bag ready!

  • dreams...

i had a crazy dream the other morning
    saturday
    i was in some diner
and i was in like... the middle of nowhere
    like
    north dakota or minesota
and all the sudden I saw this jet fall out of the sky sideways and call on its right wing
and then it kinda slid towards the diner
andthe pilot was trying to bail and and she was falling out the explosion sent her flying and she landed near the doors of the diner
some people ran out to help her and i was walking to the doors when she came busting through them with a gun
I grabbed her arm and disarmed her
and then ate breakfast or something.... end of dream
i think it was a blue angel jet
i don't dream too often, so that was pretty exciting
    the end

    Paycheck!

Whew... lots going on and lots not really going on... ever.

Work keeps me fairly busy. I carpool with the woman-person a couple units down from me. Kinda scary, cause we don't always talk much... but it is working well and I'm technically using half the gas. Along the lines of work I've been working on a new homepage design that will use a lot fewer resources and hopefully load much faster - which i find uber-exciting! My CSS (layout and styling file) that was over 1300 or 1400 lines long is now only 1022. This will be the one file to rule them all shortly!!! MWUAHAHAHA! Needless to say, I find that exciting. More exciting that the member login script I need to write for a certain other department that will remain unnamed... women.

Those of you I've talked to might know that I've had a roommate this summer... others of you know that I might want to kill said roommate. I have a running tally of things that have broken in the duration of his stay and my patience being greatly tested of late. If I find my microwave drenched in hotdog juice again, I will be retaliating. I already have to buy a new futon frame, new speakers (so i can use my home theater without the receiver shorting out every 5 minutes), a new sharp-serrated-knife among other stuff that I'll probably just have to live with - but I digress.

For good news, my lease is running up... and I am looking forward to living by myself in the near future when roommate is either dead or back at college. As a perk for renewing before the end of August the complex is offering me 2 out of the following: carpet cleaning; ceiling fan; accent wall (with 3 colors to choose from!); or some sort of bathroom fixture... sink or something. I'm excited about this! :)

Lunch soon, going out with Greg the archivist. I'm starving already!

OH! I had my car broken into a few weeks ago!! That was exciting. Mine and the roomie's. They smashed his window but my car is fine... just missing a stereo, my favorite CDs (THEY SHALL DIE!!!), a little old 12 volt air compressor my dad had given me, and the 2.25 ton floor jack i happened to have in the trunk. Needless to say, I now have an alarm installed on my car and also have a kick-ass stereo. I can hook my 500gb external harddrive to it and work. Yay for having more than enough music, all the time.

For now... that is about it.

Oh yeah, and KEEP BEING AWESOME! *cheesy thumbs up*

P.S. Scott Pilgrim is an amazing comic... if you've ever wondered what it would be like if video games and movies and shtuff leaked into your everyday boring life - this is it.

Web Design Madness and some Vids

I am currently finishing week 3 at my new job and I love it. There are more than enough things I could complain about with the state that the site is currently in, but I have to admit I enjoy it. It means I have many challenges to occupy me, and lots of work to keep me busy. Tomorrow marks the first day I meet with someone in another department to talk about changes to their site - this will certainly be the first of many like it (everyone has something for the new full-time web guy to do).

Here's a sneak peak of the redesign I'm working on... I can't link to it as the test server is in-house only (that and I never link to work related sites from my blog anyway, it's just a bad idea imo).

    http://www.screencast.com/t/MK0Jb71r

I feel like I'm being really long winded... so I don't feel like blogging right now.

Here are some vids - the first I heard on the radio a week ago and was struck by it's message (which the video makes it even more potent) and the second was just a cool video that was featured on digg.com a couple weeks ago.

Okay, so this won't let me embed... but go see it here please! And make sure to click the "watch in high quality" link. :)

    JOB!

After months of searching, I think I finally have a job!

I heard back from the Wesleyan hq people today and they said they're prepared to make me an offer and are meeting Monday to discuss it. So I should know what that is Monday or Tuesday according to him. Pray for me if you could people, I know it's probably not going to be a huge offer considering the economy and all - but I'm just hoping it's *enough*, you know.... for paying off school loans and all that jazz (oooh, jazz! there's an 80s term. A-Team FTW!).

P.S. Yozakura Quartet is and AWESOME anime from the looks for it, I watched the first episode last night and was quite impressed. ^^
